A little bit about me…
My name is Elena Winch. I qualified as a counsellor in the UK, and over the last 25 years have worked in a variety of settings, gaining extensive experience both in the UK and in New Zealand. I have worked as a counsellor in a GP Practice, a secondary school and in a further education college. I have held various posts in a number of specialised alcohol and drug agencies.
I have also worked with victims of domestic violence and with women who have been sexually assaulted. I also have a lot of experience in working in the fields of sexuality, sexual orientation and identity. During my time working as a counsellor in a school, I was pivotal in setting up New Zealand’s first Gay/Straight Alliance. For the last 13 years, I have also had my own private practice.
My initial training was as a Rogerian Person Centred counsellor. Throughout the years I have added other approaches to enhance my work. It is important to me that I respect my client, create a safe and welcoming space, and work from a position of non-judgement.
After moving to Ireland in 2010, I established a private practice in Wexford Town and worked there until 2021, when, as a response to the arrival of Covid-19 in Ireland, I switched to working remotely from home. I recently made the decision to start seeing clients face-to-face again, and have relocated my practice from Rowe Street in Wexford Town, to my garden office in Duncormick, South Wexford. I thoroughly enjoy working with both couples and individuals, and offer both short term and open-ended counselling. I am also a supervisor for other counsellors.
I am an Accredited Member of NAPCP (National Association of Professional Counselling and Psychotherapy), and as part of my on-going professional development I attend workshops and training throughout the year. I am in regular supervision with an Accredited Supervisor.
I am passionate about my work and strongly believe you should be happy talking with your counsellor without fear of judgement adding to your stress. I strive to provide a comfortable setting that will allow you to offload all that is overwhelming or confusing you.
